Hello there. I have had my red claw nearly a month, I bought it from my local LFS and he has just moulted (successfully) growing back his damaged antennae luckily. I think he's great.

The question I would like to ask is how soon should I start feeding him?? He has been munching on his exo since yesterday evening almost non stop.

Thanks :*

Anybody ?????

As long as it's not live food that could injure his softening shell, i'm sure you can start feeding now.

Hi,
I've had a red clawed crab for a few months and he's moulted three times so far, he didn't eat his old shell though, I took it out after a couple of days.

As for feeding I use the small crab sticks (about 1mm x 2mm) from my LFS and I just fed him with those.

He does like the occasional frozen pea and he's eaten half a red baloon platy that looked a bit under the weather and slept too soundly at the bottom of the tank!

I never owned these crabs, but if the fish was diseased, I think it was unwise to feed that to your crab. They sell frozen fish, squid, & shrimp nowadays at pets stores that are safe to feed.

Don't remove the shell if it doesn't eat the shell will dissolve into the water column increasing calcium levels which acts as a buffer for PH and allows the crab to absorb it.

As i, assume, we are talking of Crayfish. just keep your normal feeding cycle. as time goes on, you will "get a feel" for your crays cycle around moult time. it will eat the mould, all except the claws. but, it its still there after two days, take it out. cant see the point of letting it rot, as it will help calcium little, because there is very little left in the cast by the time it has moulted. crayfish actually eat their moult to recover the organic frame, from which hangs the calcium. this tends to be underlined by the fact the only section of the moult, with any significant amount of calcium, the claws, are always left uneaten. crays also recover their calcium from the water, not through ingestion.
