Fed up with LFS lady!

Okay, my friend (Samsung_401) has recently had problems with his Dwarf Puffers and their eating habits. (You may have seen what I'm talking about in current posts by him) So, his mom went to an LFS that is really great, but there is this one lady there who is just looking for someone new to fish keeping to rag on. It's hard to beleive I know, but it seems like it, it could just be she's not a people person, but whatever. She went to get some snails for the puffers and she had to buy them with a plant because freshwater snails are illegal to sell up here in Maine. So, this woman asked her what they were for. He's when she got very...well...um... let's put it as she was mean. Mind you I have had problems with her when I was first starting out, and she wasn't exactly nice about the things I was doing wrong.
His mom told her they were for Dwarf Puffers. The woman told her that "freshwater" puffers are illegal to own/sell in Maine. This woman beleives that all "freshwater" puffers are in fact brackish and its cruel to have them in a freshwater tank. Yeah... So she said that you can be fined $5,000 if you have them... Uh huh.... She says that you can be fines because it's "CRUELTY TO ANIMALS" for keeping them in freshwater... I can't beleive the store still gets customers becasue of her! I think she might have told us his mom about the fine because he got them (and I did too) from an online store, and not them. I don't know, but it just really makes me mad.

I think you might be over reacting. She has probably never hered of a real Fw puffer because she is here Maine, where it is for some reason illegal to sell Fw puffers. She only sells Brackish water or salt water puffers, so I can understand why she would say there is nuch such thing as a Fw puffer. But I do agree she was a little head-strong about it all.




P.S. It is also not very nice to talk about some one in that kid of way behind there backs.

I was trying to get peoples opinions on the matter and I was letting off steam. I've had bad experiences with her and it's getting old hearing you defend her when she is repeatedly done this stuff for as long as I've seen her. I'll see her do this stuff to other customers (not about puffers) so, it's not just me.

Not nice? Behind her back? I didn't say anything hurtful about her, I only said that I don't think she has her info right and she is stubborn. "Behind her back" is not great way to say it. I'm just sharing my experience, its not like I'm making up stuff about her and twisting what she does.

Reminds me of that guy at the lfs around here. I called to ask if they stocked S. American Lungfish, and he said that they were illegal (he said that it was because they were protected, which only Aussie Lungfish are) and sarcastically told that "I shouldn't go around looking for illegal fish, and that I should research fish before trying to buy them", lol. Anyway, I've already got that SAL, so stick that in your pipe and smoke it, guy from the lfs!

Yeah, some just come across badly, like this lady. I don't know if she understands how she sounds when she says this stuff. But, most are knowledgable, so I usually dont have problems with people owrking at a LFS. By the way, how big of tank do you have for that lungfish? Don't they get really big?

I think she was just stating something, I dunno, maybe she is right, try checking up on the laws, or try to educate her without being rude.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure she isn't correct. The mian fish law here is no pond fish allowed. Maybe its just because she feels so strongly that all "freshwater" puffers are brackish, that she tells people its illegal. I don't know. I'm just going to ignore her on the puffer thing and get info from the forums and local laws.

I don't know if you could call them really big, but they do usually get over 3 feet, and max out at 4. Right now he/she's in a 25 gallon grow out so that he dosn't get eaten by the rays in the 300 gal. Probably going to try to build a 2,000ish gallon system for my pacu, the lungfish might go in there later on.
