Hey all, i just got home and I noticed that my feather duster that I had purchased couple days ago wasn't out and so I walk up to my tank and I see it laying on my substrate. Is this what it means when the feather duster loses its crown? but it looks like the whole thing came out? Im wondering if it was yanked out by one of my clowns? Thanks ahead guys

is it dead??? When I had a salt water tank I never seemed to have luck with those. They would lose their crowns grow a smaller one, then die shortly after. They are hard to feed. I tried feeding them food for filter feeders but it didn't help. Sorry About yours.

It looks alive and it moved closer to my frogspawn, but it just left its tube for some reason. Everything else in my tank is doing great...it seemed to open up nicely before..

I don't know what it would leave the safety of it tunnel... I've never heard of that, but it's been 5 years since I kept them.

its a sign of a problem, maybe not enough food, maybe predation, maybe its on its way out. But it is possible that it pulls through and grows a new crown. Keep your water quality in good condition and hope for the best. What did you feed it?

IF you only got it a few days ago it is most likely just stress. I would leave it alone, sometimes they are able to rebuild the tube, but most of the time they are usually on their way out. :/

Got that right. Its dead :rip:
Well since we're on the topic of inverts so I don't have to start a new thread, is there anyone here who have any sexy shrimp? I am thinking about picking some up but I heard they could possibly mess/eat corals? Is this true?

Mine never bothered any of my corals. But one thing I would say is be careful what type of fish you have, as these can make a tasty and expensive snack for quite a few marine fish.
As for the worm, under stress they will leave their tube, but you can put them back in by gently easing the bottom into the end of the tube. Obviously wear gloves and do it in the tank. Then place on the sand and the worm will reverse back into its tube onits own. They also do shed their crowns when stressed or moved, all of mine did it when I had to move them back after a white spot outbreak but they all grew them back within 2 weeks just smaller. And they can also grow another tube. Just make sure they are out of predators way while they do it.
When out of their tubes they can look dead so you have to be carefull not throw away a live worm :( They are also pretty tough too so I would always give them a second chance .

Yeah I might hold back on the sexy shrimp for now. As for the duster, it looks a lot smaller, it actually looks like a slimy little string rather than a worm. I thought my snails ate it but I found it hiding behind my frogspawn, it is moving but it definitely did not look like it did when it first came out of its tube.

My feather dusters when they get massive do this for some reason. I leave the tubes where they are and in 1-2 months time, the feather duster reappears but much smaller. I does the tank with live plankton once every other day so they get plenty of food...
