I have just purchased a hydor koralia powerhead but it seems to be very noisy compared to my maxi jets. I have tried moving it about and adjusting the magnet but is still noisy. I have had to switch it off. Does anyone know if this is normal with this type of powerhead or could it be faulty? Thanks for any help

Unfortunately its normal. Is it the koralia 1? I've returned 3 different Koralia 1's in the hope that I'd get one that isn't noisy. The problem is it seems to take a few days for the noise to start so when Ive returned them and the guy has tried them out, they have of course ran silently.

This 4th one was no different but I put up with it and after a few weeks it runs almost silently. It's on a timer so I hear a slight rattle as it starts up and thats about it. If you can put up with it for a few weeks it might quieten down. Alternatively you could try get hold of a Tunze Nanostream, they are just as good IMO.

Yes it is the koralia 1 and the same thing happened with mine it was fine for the first few days then started rattling. I will maybe try and persevere with it and see if it qiutens down although was worried it would freak my fish out.

I have a Koralia 1, and it was noisy for the first couple of minues, then i quieted down. It been 2 weeks and all i hear is a humm.

Ive got a koralia 1 and ive found that air gets trapped at the back of the propellor causing slight noise, ive found when i unplug it then plug it stright back in it blows the air out & quitens down. But the air will build up again so just needs un-plugging now and again!

silent from day one (koralia 2), common noise makers are faulty product, loose piece, improper positioning of a piece, or maybe even missing a piece.

Yeah, my Koralia 3's have been silent since day 1 as well. Rattling sounds usually indicate a faulty magnet or a broken impeller shaft. The shafts are ceramic and can break during shipping. Having never used a Koralia 1 I'm not sure if it's able to be taken apart, if you can, try. Take the magnet/impeller out and make sure the shaft is still one piece ;). If not, re-assemble and return as faulty.
