I have had 4 little otocinclus for almost a year now. They do a grand job keeping algae at bay but I've noticed one of them is looking really fat. At first I thought it was about to lay eggs but it has been this way for several months now. It is slightly larger than the others but more obviously is the belly on it! Could this be a sign of disease or just an well-fed little fish? It seems fine swimming and is always eating.

Thanks,
Steve

It could just be a well fed fish.
Have you noticed any aggressive behaviour from this fish towards the others when feeding?
Would need a picture to identify properly.

A chubby oto is a happy well fed oto! Unless it is acting strange and looking off colour don't worry about it! :good:

if youve had them for about a year and it seems fatter than the others. id assume its a well fed female (they are broader around the "middle" thank the males. you sex them much in the same way you would cories...if it looks like a speedboat=male...if it looks liek a tugboat=female.) otos all should each have nice rounded pot bellies. broader would describe a female. id not worry and be happy they are thriving.
cheers

Thanks for all your comments folks, I would have posted a photo but they are never around when I have the camera ready! I guess it's just a well fed fish. I've never seen any aggression over food with them.
