O.K. , I am a newb here, but i have these two lil neon tetras, and they are both active and seemingly healthy, except one is like waaay fat. I had thought at first that maybe they were live bearers and she was about to drop a few hundren fry out, lol , but it seems they are egg layers, so....I mean are overweight neons common? this fish is really really fat :flex:

Newb. No, my friend, you are a newbie. "Newb" is a derrogatory term.

:hi: to the forum. Introduce yourself in the newbie section. :D

As for your question, the one is probably a female that is laden with eggs. The other, however, isn't necessarily a male. You should have tetras in groups of six or more because it makes them feel more at home and less stressed. Also, in this case, they breed in groups, so you should have more in case you have no males or not enough to fertilize all the eggs.

How big is the tank?

...Hiya Tempest, and thanks for the welcome, .....well atm i just have 10 gal tank, moving this weekend, and will have more room for a bigger tank , YAY! ...as for the fat lil neon, she gonna pop! ..I only have 2 in the tank now, sadly, i had 5 to begin with, but lost 3 :( ..I think the first to stress, and the other two to a very bad fungus brought home by a new tank mate from a bad source :*) Now that the tank is cycled and all has been well for a few weeks, i planned to introduce a few more lil neons, I love those lil guys, name em all Stripe, but they dont seem to mind :p I just wanted to make sure that there wasnt some strange neon bloat going on before i get some new ones.
