In feeding my fish I have been using the 5 min per day rule, but some fish are greedier than others... and I have a female swordtail who has always been at the front of the queue so to speak! Shes always had a bit of a tendancy to look very "full", but since I acquired some corrys and started dropping in the odd pellet for them, she's become even fatter... she has a tendancy to want to eat the pellets, and even turns the corrys off them sometimes! She is beginning to look like she's swallowed a barrel!

Is this due to her apparent greediness, or is she pregnant or what?

Here is a pic of my greedy swordtail caught on camera tackling a catfish pellet. Her boyfriend, as can be seen, is very slim by comparison!

Thanks.

Definately heavily pregnant and you have a stunning swordtail male! Keep up the good work and prepare for fry!! I would say definately within the next 5 days you will have fry!!

Oh wow! Thanks guys! I guess the eating thing is a symptom rather than cause! Time to get out the books and read up :)

stunning swordtail male

Thanks! :) He's the only male i've owned so I didn't realise!

Try reading the pinned article in the forum "livebearers" that should give you agood start ;)

Ahh thanks!! Good call. I'm always forgetting there are forums other than "beginners questions" and "tropical chit chat" :)

That's the most beautiful swordtail male I think I've ever seen! (your female is also pretty) I hope you get fry. You should raise them--you'll make alot of people happy with fish like that.

Gosh *glows* Your the second person to say so... I am going to look carefully at all the other sword tail males next time I goto the lfs! :) Maybe i'll get a a breeder net/cage after all as well, although I have plenty of plants to aid them.

Biggest problem is feeding really. I rise and goto work long before lights on time and so they are liable to get fed once a day :|
