I have two fan-tailed guppies who are usually the life and soul in my tank rushing around like crazy and always first when the nightly feed happens.

This morning I've noticed the smaller of the two appears quite bloated and isn't swimming around that much, just staying on the same spot in the middle of the tank. He is also opening and closing his mouth quite a bit. I can't see anything else on his body in terms of mould, raised scales, or any other symptoms.

All the tank levels are fine and the last 25% water change was yesterday. None of the other 6 fish are showing any signs of problems (tank is a 60 litre by the way.)

Could this just be obesity or something else. Constipation maybe? I was going to hold off on feeding them this evening. Good course of action do you think?

Any help much appreciated.

Are you sure??

We are talking very small guppies here - about 2.5cm long.

Ph - 7.8
Nitrites - nil
Amonia - nil
Nitrates - 20ppm

I think that littlepuff thought that they were fantail goldfish - your fantail guppies should be just fine in the space that you have. :D

Cool. But I still have my original dilemma.

What could be wrong with the little guy?

OK. I held off on feeding last night.

This morning Guppy's belly is still swollen and quite lethargic. Anyone got any ideas?

I'm hoping its constipation rather than drospy.

I'll try the pea thing and let you know how I get on.

None of the fish seem to know what the peas are there for! They don't appear the least bit interested in eating them, especially the poorly guppy.

Is there anything esle I can try?

TT.

Well I tried some live food which of course the other fish loved but fat guppy just wasn't intrested. He was just hanging on the surface.

So it wasn't a surprise this morning when I turned on the light to see that poor Celeste T. Guppy had passed on.

Seeing as this is our first loss in two months of fishkeeping, we're a bit gutted. Especially when we're not 100% on what caused it.

is the fat one male or female, if its female it could just be pregnant
