I have 3 danios in my 10 gal tank. Two of them(both of the long-finned) are quite larger( body size in general, not fat) than the other.most of the time it seems like the long-finned zebra danio is much fatter in the belly area than the other two. Other times it seems all three are really fat and are fine with in the next couple days. Its hard for me to even tell the difference between the females and males. Is this a feeding or breeding problem? I've tried controlling the amount of food that they are fed, but it doesn't seem to have an effect. Is it the water quality? (see other post)

Please help!

I have a sexing and breeding page on my website, check there for help with the fatness question.

Also danios need to be in groups of 5 at least and, IMO, 10 gallons is not enough room for danios. I recomend at least 23" length of tank, due to the level of activness.

They prefer shoalinjg and need high O2 levels and room to move in. They force water through their gills when they swim, and if the O2 levels fall or if they don't have enough room to swim in, they will get very stressed out and sick.

They are probably just filling with eggs. Since they breed in a group, you should add more fish (after moving them) in case all of the fish that you have are females. That way you can be sure taht yuo have at least one male.

If you are interested in breeding these fish, you could place a post in the breeding section. It is really simple to set up a breeding and fry-rearing tank.
