hello,
I just noticed that my bristle nose catfish is un usually fat, is it pregnat?

I think its a girl as its about 2.5 inches now and dosnt have any bristles forming.

I dont think I have any males in my tank but I posted earlier about my dissappering BN (its name is magical trever and it dissappeared again. Did it come back?!?!?) any way thats another story.

any help would be greatly appricated :#

So you may or may not have another BN in the tank which may or may not be a male is that right? I don't know if you need a male around for a female to produce eggs but they produce them and lay them and then a male fertilises them. Where is she fat? if she is fat nearer to her tail then she might be constipated. Try feeding her peas anyway which should help if she is constipated.

Hope this helps

thanks, anyway she is fat around the stomach, anyway I checked she just died. A parasite maby?
pleas tell me your thoughts cause theres an other "fat" catfish

also she semmed to bee sucking onto the container I put her in. Please tell me If she is still alive.

(I put some water into the container)
(is there any other food than peas thet can relive constipation?)

If she has a problem she may have just been sitting still even if you poked her but still be alive. Make 100% sure she is dead before you get rid of her. I would suggest keeping her in water in a container floating in the tank for now until you are sure. Can you see her moving near her gills at all?

There are many reasons that she might have been fat. Constipation, parasite such as an intestinal worm, bacterial infection, etc. I think at this point it is really important to find out what is wrong especially if other fish are showing symptoms. Can you post a picture along with tank details like size water stats other fish in the tank. There is not much use in treating for constipation if they have another problem but putting them into an epsom salt bath might be a good idea if it was that. Quote below was suggested by someone on another forum for me when my BN had a problem with worms (after treatment to kill the worms)

I've seen ppl on forums say to use anywhere from 1/8-tsp to 1-tbsp of Epsom salt per gal. If the fish is in a weakened condition or is a very sensitive species...&/or you've never use it on the fish, than I would suggest starting with less and work up to whatever is tolerated.

Has anything happened to her recently like had fin damage or other injuries that might have left her susceptible to an infection?

thanx for all your help

shes definately dead :( and my other BNs have "deflated".

It was probbly constipation but all my other fish are fine

thanx again :good:

Sorry to hear about your loss.

It is really important to keep the water quality up. If there has been a problem they will get over it much better if they have nice clean water and good quality food.
