Fat betta

my female in my community tank is really fat all of a sudden
i hadn't fed her yet so.........
is she just swollen with eggs?
do they produce eggs like crazy even when there is no male around
i'm so scared for her and i only have 5 minutes before i have to leave
HELP!

oh!
i forgot about the "white bump"
she has it, and she is VERY fat
well its good to know that she's gravid and doesn't have dropsy
even if i DID have to figure it out on my own
hahaha just kiddin' guys
i'm so releived
BUT........
can you help me out with something else now?

i just read somewhere that they can die if they aren't bred when gravid...
is this true?
should i be concerned?

female bettas produce eggs on a monthly basis with or without the male present. usually the eggs just spill out and are eaten by the female. nothing to worry about
