I'm looking for a farlowella for my 55 gallon planted community, but am having trouble narrowing down if they would be too big for my tank. The tank is a standard 4foot 55 gallon, planted with driftwood and sand. Is there any species that get way too big that I should avoid when looking for one? Any help would be great!

The most common farowella species in the aquarium trade only get to 10 in max that I know of and are really laid back.  They like to find a spot and just hang out.  The tank you describe sounds to be perfectly fine for some farowella.  They are long and thin and do not take up much room at all.  The one major recommendation is to make sure you don't have too many aggressive fish because they do tend to have tendencies to pick on the more placid farowellas.

I kept 3 farlos in my 50 gal. high light planted tank for a few years, the only thing in a tank less aggressive than a farlowella is an oto affinis. Maybe this picture of my three would help.

The may be long but they are really skinny, they are neat looking fish but they don't do very much besides look like sticks.

The only possible thing in the tank that could ever be aggressive is my large Angel, but even then I've never seen an ounce of aggression from him!

They are such cool fish! I've been looking around, and I really like the Royal Farlowella. Know anything about them? From what I can tell they seem to be fine for my tank, now if I could just find one...

The farlowella you are talking about if we're talking about the same common name the "rayal farlowella" isnt actualy a farlowella :O . It is is a sturisoma (might have spelt that wrong) while farlos are loricariids. As for care they really shouldnt be toh different. Let them graze on algae and feed them blanched greens :)
