Today i purchased 5 small fancy goldfish what food is the best to feed them with frozen or dry or a mixture of both. What types of frozen food can they have.

flake food is perfectly fine for gold fish and small pellet.

However treat them once a week with some frozen blood worm, they love it :)

I prefer to feed pelleted food, ie Hikari Lionhead, Hikari Bio Gold, Hikari Oranda etc They work wonderfully and really brind ouut the colours in the fish. My goldies will eat most frozen things, bloodworms, brineshrimp etc and they love frozen community blocks. They also love peas, buy frozen peas, defrost them and pinch them and the shell will come off, and you feed them the two halves inside.

If your fish show signs of swimbladder later in life (mine became prone to it within a couple of weeks of being with me) then I can recommend Tetra Gold Japan. They're little pellets but are formulated to ease digestion, which often causes swimbladder problems. If your fish are ok without it then that's great.

I agree with everyone else about the frozen food, mine go crazy for anything frozen! Not to sound like I'm stating the obvious though, remember to defrost it first, maybe in a little tub with some hot water on or something, that's what I do.

As an occasional treat, my fantails also enjoy Tetra Fresh Delica, which are little pouches of wet food that is good fun to feed to them.

Enjoy your new fish, I hope they give you many moons of happiness :D

I have ordered them some Tetra gold japan i will use it from now on it says it prevents fancy goldfish getting swimbladder. My goldies are only an inch long so i will use it from now on so they hopefully remain healthy. :good:

Yep...I always use the sinking pellets made for fancy goldfish. They tenD to gulp air in if you aren't careful. My fancy fish I have had just 2 weeks, got him over white spot, but he is very lethargic, had the water tested today and the nitrates were all wrong. So he is in clean conditioned water but he doesn't look good. i don't know why I buy fancy fish I love them but can never keep them!
