Real corals aren't a possibility with the fish I want to get, but I still like how corals look. So I plan on getting some fake corals.

Are there fake corals that look decent (I've only seen them online and don't know what they look like close up)? Would there be any problems with fake corals?

Never used them so I can't reccomend one over the other, but there wont be any problems from putting pieces of inert plastic into the water column :)

There was someone who asked the same question a little while ago but I'm struggling to remember who it was. I know he bought some, but then took some of it back out as it looked a bit tacky.
Most of the fake ones look very obviously fake with unrealistic mouldings and colours. If you can find some realistic ones then go for it but in my opinion most of them rate right down there with pirate ships and treasure chests

I have some of those Copi Corals in my daughters tank - they feel like rubber and come in very bright colours, if you want a realistic look then deffinately dont buy these one. But they do look mental in her tank with bright orange gravel - she is 4 though! not really what i would have in my front room but suits her bright bedroom.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I definately don't want the bright tacky colors. I guess I won't do fake corals. I guess I'll wait for the coralline algae to spread throughout my tank.
