At a club meeting auction a month or so ago I got 3 Golden Mystery Snails. I put them in my 60g display tank. A week or two later, I noticed an egg case up on the HOB filter. After some research, I made a hatchery from a small plastic container lined with a wet paper towel. When the eggs began to hatch, I transferred them to an external breeder box hanging on a 10g fry tank. They were all moving around just fine, but by the following morning sadly they had all perished.

A week or two later there were two more small egg cases on the filter. I hatched them the same way but this time I moved all the fry out of the 10g and put the little snails inside the 10g. There are 2-3 dozen little golden mystery snails that appear to be growing and doing well. "If at first you don't succeed..."

I watched a Youtube and the fellow said that in his tank with several mystery snails, if he doesn't add a can of green beans every day, some snails will leave the tank in search of food. He's rescued some, but some have perished.
I had one of my three snails disappear and for a time, I thought s/he was just not where I could see it. I eventually found it on the floor behind the tank - s/he didn't survive. :-(

And on it goes. :)

Can you post a photo of your golden mystery snail please?

Thats great 🙂

I had some of these guys for one of my tanks a fair few months ago (couldnt get them in the uk at one point) and they laid eggs pretty quickly. I wondered what they was at first with looking different to any eggs ive seen before.

I cant believe how messy these guys are 😲 poop machines

Ah, I remember my dad's tank used to have loads of these round yellow snails, he called them apple snails - in his tank. Long before I got into the hobby, and bought long before they were banned in the UK. They must have been breeding because he wouldn't have bought that quantity.

Until he was gifted some botia loaches. No more lovely yellow snails...

I'm sorry @AbbeysDad , I forgot to congratulate you! Happy for you, and I like the lesson in perseverance as well :)

Keep an eye on your ph....that multitude of growing shells will leech alot of calcium from the water column...had it happen once in a 10G, ph crash
I might add come crushed coral to the filter but believe that it's not just the water, but they need calcium in their diet - still not sure of the best way to provide this.??

I've heard of people using cuttlefish, which is easily acquired from any pet store since birds like budgies also need it - but how much and how quickly that might affect your water parameters, I'm not sure.
