Fading Color

is this a disease? or stress?
i had him in a community tank that was being treated for fin and tail rot. now he's in his own 2.5.

why would his tail be fading to white?

Um.. well, my boys tail did that once while it was growing back after tail rot but I'm not sure.

If he is/has recovered recently from fin rot, that is the re-growth. If he did not have fin rot before, that could be the start of fin rot.

how long before i know whether it is regrowth or fin rot?

oh good, i was worried. he's my only betta
should i be be concerned that i have never once seen him flare?

No. He probably doesn't feel like it. You could try and put him beside a mirror and see if he'll flare, that usually works.

i don't want to stress him, just to fill my own selfish curiosity .
i had read that sometimes they would flare at their reflection in the tank.
he's been hiding behind the filter unless i keep the room light on.
he comes out when he sees me, and he loves to have his picture taken.

since he's my only one, i'm a little confused on what 'normal' behavior would be.

It looks to me like he's just changing colours, actually. Perfectly normal
