External filters

Is it true that external filters are better then internal filters? Are they hard to set up and maintain? What equipment do you need to run one?

most externals are better due to the fact that they have a much bigger surface area of media. you should get everything you need included except maybe some filter media.

i buy my media (sponge type) from pond equiptment suppliers you can buy whole sheets of the stuff for a fraction of the price of some fluval or juwel medias.

i usually use fluval bio-max in mine.. seems to do the trick.
