my tank is approx 125 litres and i would like to get an external filter and wont to know if i was to get one that was a bit big for the tank would it be more efficient?

Depends what you mean by efficient?

By adding a larger filter you should have excelent water clarity and also the filtration to handle messier fish or overstock slightly.

IMO it's always best to overfilter.

i have a 250 litre tank for about 18 months i just used a tetratec ex700 filter which is for aquariums up to 250 litres it kept up with the filtering but i had to clean it about every 3 weeks so i added another ex700 on the same tank both running now the water is exceptional and the fish seem so much happier plus i only clean them about every 6 weeks so over filtering is easier and better for you and fish :D
