external filters

Since changing to sand in my 42G tank, my internal canister filter is making a hell of a racket, tried cleaning it out, taking it apart etc to no avail.

I am considering getting an external filter.

Can anyone give me some recomendations, for a 42G livebearer/loach tank, with silica sand as substrate.

MUST be quiet as its in my bedroom and doesn't cost an arm and a leg. (around £60 max)

Fluval 204, Rena Xp1, Eheim classic 2213. All decent enough filters and the first two should be in or close to your budget.
