Hi,

I have been looking at replacing my current Eheim thermofilter 2317 as I find this to be a pain to clean (even though I only have to do it once every 3 months).

The main reason for this is that I have no manual for it (can't find it online either) as it was given to me by a friend that had to move into a smaller place.

I know that with newer models you can disconnect the main filter from the hoses that go into the tank without having loads of spillages, even if I could fit a valve to this current filter would help.

The main model I have looked at is another Eheim, but I have also noticed that a lot of people on this forum seem to use Fluval.

If you had a choice - which filter would you use?

A lot of people swear by Eheim for quality etc. but the main deciding factor between the two seems to be cost. I have some other Fluval Filters and they are absolutely fine. So at the end of the day it's down to personal choice and budget I think :)
By the way: don't know if this helps you at all http://www.brooklands.co.nz/eheim/parts/1217.htm

I have had a Fluval external for a couple of months now and I'm very pleased with it. Have opened it up to put peat into one of the compartments and it started up again no trouble.
