Hi all. A litle help needed, i have a jewel rio 180 and i want to use an external filter does this mean my tank will have to be drilled?. If not could you please give some advice on model and price(peenies a bit short after crimbo). Thanks in advance Dave :good:

I don't know exactly what you mean by "drilled" but you could always get a rena or fluval canister filiter as these both are externals, they run into the back of the tank with tubes so you should be good :D  good luck oh and I'm not familiar with jewel rio 180... how many gallons are we talking about?

What do you mean by drilled?

Doesn't your Rio 180 have two small cut outs either side at the back of the tank. You can run a cannister external pipework through these holes.

...

I think ive been misled by a friend about "drilling" a tank.

Yes my rio does have two small cut out on the back.

Could you please reccomend a filter for this tank, maybe i should have told you that im getting a bigger tank of 400 litres, would it be possible to get one that would fit both sizes.

Thanks for help

I'd say a fluval 305 canaster filter, it's for up to 70 gallons but if your tanks 47 gallons, then a 70gallon filter will do wonders for the clarity, I currently have 110gallons of filtration for my 55gallon, over filtering is never a bad thing... unless your fish are extremly small (such as fry or neons) then everything goes bad for you and everybody DIES!!! :p other than that you could try renas... their always good... anyways good luck :D

I've got 2 Juwel Vision 180's - both running Eheim 2026's (suitable for up to 350L) or there's the 2028 (for up to 600L) - bit pricey though.

tetratec 1200 will do for the current tank and the upgrade to a 400ltr
£115 retail, although I'm sure they are cheaper on the net

Ive found a tetratec 1200 advetised by rocket aquatics, before i ordered one i just wanted to know if anyone else has had any dealings with them and can they reccomend them.

Thanks for your time

oh yeah the price was £74.99.

i went for the 2026 for my rio 180.. top filter... but then again, i only have the original juwel one to compare it to. So it was always going to come off well.. hehehehehe.
