Ok, im new to the external filter club. but it came with a spray bar. Now, my question is, will the spray bar offer oxygenation of the water? or am i best leaving my airstone on ?

if the spray bar will help the 02 level in the water if its above the water level. leaveing the spray bar on the filter will affect flow rate a little by slowing it down.
leaveing the spray bar above the water level can also cause a little noise of splashing water so it all depends on how you want to do it.

So what if, as i have it now, the bar is pointing upwards towards the water line?

as long as the water surface is being disturbed then gas exchange will happen. if you tank isnt full loaded and heavely stocked that should be enough to keep the 02 at a good level in the tank.
if you have any worries about it just leave in the air stone, it will do more good than bad anyway.
