external filter really dumb question

ok feel free to laugh and poke fun at me but in external filters (namely eheim) with the two outlets at the top which way does the water filter top media basket down or bottom basket up, just so i know in which order to fit the media.

Which model?
i have an ehiem classic 2213 the water goes in
the bottom and comes out the top.
I assume all ehiems are the same, but I maybe wrong on that.

Yeah I think you're right wolf. My eheim does the same. Mines a 2229 Wet/Dry, so I only use bio media in it, but in others, I start with coarse mechanical at the bottom, then bio media, then fine floss at the top!!!

yes, but the water flows in from the input straight to the bottom of the filter and then goes up through the media before going back out of the outlet into the tank again. Thats why the media goes in with the coarse mechanical at the bottom up to the fine floss at the top!!

Generally, the newer filter flow from the bottom to the top and the older filter tend to flow from the top to the bottom

The newer filters are better because the detrius which managed to get into the filter dosn't tend to block the outlet like it used to do with the old style canisters.
