External Filter Question.

Iv just built my own DIY external filter for my aqua cube ( i will put up a post on my filter and aqua cube when iv got the filter working).

The thing is iv put the pipes together added water ect ect put it on to test it, but water just gets pumped into the cube but no water trys to return into the DIY external filter, Now i havn't put sealant around all my drill holes.

So heres the question does there have to be a complete seal in every area possible to create a vacume?
So if theres air getting in the top it wont suck water through the fillter intake?

I think i know tthe awnswer but just looking for comfimation

In a word - Yes!

No seal means means no vacuum means water not drawn into filter. Plus, if you then have some form of pump to push the filtered water back into the tank and the canister isn't sealed, guess where the water's gonna finish up?

Path of least resistance and all that...

That was my thought pattern too, the link you put up iv seen before and that filter is similar to what i have made.

Just sealed all poss holes and air leaks so just gana have to wait for the sealant to dry and give it another go!

You say youve got a aquacube is that a tropica aquacube? I like the look of them if it is!! But they are about £120!! ouch for such a small tank.

Hope the DIY filter works! Im also from the wirral you can make me one!!

Yer its the tropica aqua cube, it was a gift off my girlfriend.

Keep an eye out becasue il pe posting a pic tonight when i get in from work.

Yer got an 18"by 12" by15" planted tank.
Im gana be stripping that soon and re-aquascaping it, the fish will be going into a new 3foot holding tank.

The aqau cube is my nearest project, il be posting info of my filter in the DIY forum and my aqua cube in the planted tank forum.
