external filter for my discus tank?

ok i'm gettin a discus tank soon, the guy selling it to me has 7 discus at least 1 clown loach and a shed load of black tetra, he is using a ugf and is giving me that and the heater along with the tank but i dont fancy the ugf, i'm looking at external ehiem but dont know which would be best i dont wann pay too much but want a good one.

oh yeah its about 200litres
34" long
15" deep
27" tall
apparently 10mm glass

Try an eheim external canister filter model no 2213 these suffice for aquariums up to 250ltrs and are relateively cheap for an Eheim, with the bonus that you can buy taps and various addons from the range later. I've used this model in the past with no problems whatsoever..

ok cool, is it easy to maintian etc? and what features does it have (stop valve for cleaning etc)?

You stated that you did not want to pay too much for the filter, so this is a standard filter with no bells or whistles. To get a stop valve ie shut off for cleaning, you will have to invest in a set of taps, one for the intake side and another set for the outward. Adding to the expense I know. The only other option I know would be to either buy secondhand or try getting one of Ebay or the likes of.

I hate to be annoying, but I'll have to say it to ease my conscience... I think that 7 discus will need much more than 200 litres. 200 litres = 52.6 US gallons, and I read in a discus forum somewhere that they need about 20 gallons each so... yeah...

i too think he overstocked but looking at his pics it didn't look crowded at all, very spacy in fact. i'll just have to wait and see!!
