hi guys I'm looking at external filter for a 240 litre tank i was looking at the fx6 but will this be too much for it? if it is i was thinking of the fluval 406

thanks

If you have a Maidenhead Aquatics near you you could go for an Aquamanta filter, they really are great. The main reason I chose one for my tank over the other brands is because it gets a 4 year warranty. Plus, it's a tad cheaper than the same equivalent by Fluval or Eheim. The Fluval 406 costs £140, while the Aquamanta EFX 400 costs £110.

All filters are going to be like that, though this is a newer model so it should be quieter.

ahhh ok it gets amplified when i close the door on the stand i thought there might have been a way to quieten it down a bit

It might quieten down once it's been going longer; some filters need to 'bed in'. You can also make sure the tubes aren't touching the cabinet, or stand the filter on an old towel or piece of sponge.

I will say that you do get used to the noise after a while as well

thanks again folks its more for my mum lol, she likes her quietness but then she likes the fish as well so she will have to make a compromise :) lol

You could try putting a little towel or sponge under the filter if the hum is just vibrations. I did that with my Eheim and it works fine.
Obviously that won't work if it's impeller hum but still it's worth a try.

yeah thanks i have a towel under it and its still there so it must be the impeller
