What would be the best one?

Are any of these ones good:
FLUVAL 103
FLUVAL 104
TETRATEC EX1200
RENA 406

I know nothing about external filters at all, so forgive me if above list is questionable.

I could use advice on external filters in general and which ones are quiet and easy to use for a beginner and not too big due to storage. I don't want a clip on one either.

Thanks x

Fluval 103/204 (but get the newer models.... 105/205, its just an updated version of them, they aren't supposed to leak, just make sure you get a dvd in the box with teh fluval, and you will know its the new one), but will be sufficient enough, or if you can afford an eheim, look through the classic or ecco range... You seriously get what you pay for, and its really reliable :)

The tetratec 1200 would be toooooooo powerful for a 100L tank!

Ahh thank you!!

How many lph should a 100 litre be pumping?

about 500L plus? Someone could correct me on this one though, but i think a 500L/h should do the job, unless you are planning to put a lot of fish in there...

Not planning to overstock obviously, but still want the best filtration for my budget.

ok, well you might want to look at the fluval range. If you can stretch it to an eheim cannister, look at which one would be suitable for your tank :)

I've recently bought a Tetratec EX700 filter and it seems really good. Comes with all the filter media you need.

You can also get it very cheap at www.zooplus.co.uk

So is Eheim the best money can buy then?

Eheim are very good quality (how just switch to an Eheim with a built in heater for my planted tank). Tetratec is also apparently very good to and I have used Fluval canisters a lot in the past with no issues.

Ooh decisions decisions. I read that the Fluval 104 has an erratic spray bar, which put me off Fluval a bit. I've heard lots of ravings about Tetratec, I might look into them and compare with Eheim and go from there. 2 tanks, so 2 filters = not loads of money to spend unfortunately.

yes - the tetratec range are very good

the EX600 would be perfect for your tank as it does tanks from 80l -120l

thanks
