Extension tube

I went out and bought a 30/60 filter for my 29g. It came with an extension tube, but it makes the strainer touch the gravel. If I leave the tube off, the strainer is barely 1/3 of the way into the aquarium. Should I cut the extension tube? or let it draw from a 1/3 depth?

I have strainers on a couple of tanks that touch the bottom. I like to get them as low as I can. You can cut the extension a little if you want, I like using water safe tubing from the hardware store cut to length, it's cheaper.

well, I'd agree that those things are expensive. Probably wouldn't have gotten one had it not come with it
