Tons of Rena Filstar reviews here - just click "more reviews" on the bottom of the page for more.

My personal experience with my Rena Filstar XP3 - it's noisy ! (though as about 80% of reviews mention this it seems quite the norm). Otherwise quite an OK filter with good volume and output.

I only have had experience with the XP3 filters

They have good media capacity and the flow is good but,

They are a pig to prime properly and can be noisy when not primed, I have found spares to be quite difficult to get hold of locally but OK if you can shop on-line ( which is limiting when you need a seal and cannot buy one in the LFS )

I prefer them to Fluval filters but think Eheim are better from a spares perspective

Steve :)

I have an XP3. It's not all that hard to prime, and it's noisy until it is, but when running normally, it's very quiet. Not silent, but I don't notice it in my family room.
