I was watching my fish the other day when I noticed that one of my female guppies had a big white lump underneath the skin on her back. Whatever it was--be it cyst or tumor or whatever--I knew it probably wasn't something I could hope to cure but that the disease might pose a threat to my other fish, so I euthanized her. I've never had anything like this in any of my fish before, so I'm not sure what it was--does anybody know anything about it? Is it contagious? Did I catch in time so that it won't spread? Should I be worried about my other fish?

I would mover her to a quaranteen ank and add melafix. It is ulcers and i dont know much about them but it is best to keep her away from other fish.
Test your water to see if your water perimiters are ok.

Hope this helps.

At least your guppy didn't have to suffer. I would definatly have done the same with your judgement.

Identifying ulcers/tumours etc is difficult to say the least. There is realy no way to say whether it was contagious or not. If it was, you probably elliminated the chance of it being passed on by euthanising before she died in the tank and was eaten by her tank-mates. If your fish all look healthy I wouldn't worry. Just watch them closely and make shure your water parameters remain consistently good and there are no fluctuations in water quality and that the fish are not stressed.
