Came up with a right result today. As i have a hell of alot of water in various tanks i go through one hell of a lot of dechlorinator which as you know isnt cheap. I use the nutrafin aqua plus brand which is £4.69 for 100ml which treats 154 ukg. When i was in maidenhead aquatics i saw this device by evolution aqua for ponds which you connect to your tap and run a hose from the end and it dechlorinates the water as it passes through the device. Well this device was £59.99 and does 33000 ukg.

So in my working out 1x100ml bottle =£4.69 for 154 gallons so 214 bottles will do roughly 33000uks which costs £1003 or 59.99 for the devis i make that one hell of a saving dont you think???

Definitely so. If I can ever get around to it, I'm going to get an R/O unit to make my own water. It'll be a $100 up front or so and then $100 a year for replacement filters and etc but it'll still be a savings as I need to do 32 gallons a week with my current set up, and I'll probably save a $100 or so. This is of course before expanding my set ups. :p The unit I'm looking at does 24 gallons per day so it'll pay for itself.

If you buy pond de-chlorinator you can pick up stuff like I use which de-chlors 8,000 UK gallons for only £10.

The down side to RO is if you are on a water meter (or have a heavy conscience about waste water) as for every gallon of RO water it creates at least3, and often up to 10, gallons of waste water.

True, but our tap is generally cheap, though I find it is usually too hard and has some heavy metals in it.

Hello mark, how was your trip? I have a dechlorinator called Prime, and its made by Seachem, you only use 2 drops to every 1us gallon and it removes chlorine, chloramine, ammonia.. It detoxifies nitrite and nitrate... and also provides slime coat.
at £4.35 for a 50 ml bottle, this surely must be a cheaper option, it lasts for months on 300 uk gallons!!!!!! :good:

not really mate i spent £59.99 on a product that does 33,000ukg so you would have to buy 110 bottles of that stuff to match this unit so 110 bottles at £4.35 is £478.50 so i think i make a bit of a saving on that one mate.

The de-toxification has not been scientifically proved in any way.

Seachem state on their website that they have received emails from aquarists who have found that when overdosing Seachem Prime that it seems to de-toxify nitrate. I would be interested to know how these people know it has de-toxified the nitrate, does it stop showing up on the tests?

Seachem themselves admit they have no idea how it could be chemically possible but because they have received contact from a lot of people who claim this has happened they believe it is more than a fluke (though seem unwilling to actually look into it in any depth, lest they lose a strong marketing point).

I'm just reading what it sais on the box budd. sounds good. :good:
