Hello all, I find myself in need of your advice.
I've got a 60L tank running a Fluval 205, currently stocked with 7 guppies, 6 cories, 8 cardinals, 1 bamboo shrimp and 4 apple snails (I know this is overstocked, but I'm planning on getting a larger tank in the new year). My most recent water change was at 6.30PM today, I changed 24 litres.
Okay, so I'm sat there watching my tank and notice a dark patch on the side of one of my cories, and on closer inspection I noticed that a large portion of his fin is gone and there's "fluff" surrounding it and it looks kinda bloody. I'm guessing it's infected, though I've not done any reading on it yet.
I also have a cardinal tetra that has a problem with its eye - there appears to be a little worm like squiggle in a bulge above its eye, though it's difficult to get a proper look as my cardinals are extremely shy (which is going to make catching it for quarantining a right pain in the behind if it turns out it needs to be). He's completely normal and active otherwise.
Now, I'm a COMPLETE IDIOT and didn't learn from the last time I lost a fish so I don't have everything for a quarantine tank (I dont have a heater), but if the cory is still alive by the morning I'm going out to buy one. For the moment I'm floating a box in the tank for the cory to keep him out of the current (with holes in the bottom to allow water to leave and enter so no ammonia buildup), but since doing this he's completely belly up. Still breathing, but belly up and not looking too good. Not sure he's going to last to be honest.
I'm not sure how it's happening, but a few of my other cories have small tears in the fins on their backs, and one of my guppies has a split tail as well. I have a bottle of King British Disease Clear which seems to be an all round thing for fungal and bacterial infections, split fins and the like. Although I was planning on quarantining the cory, I think he's gonna be dead by the morning really and was wondering if it might be an idea to medicate the whole tank to treat the various split fins and hopefully help the cardinal, though I'm not sure I've got the right stuff to treat that. Ideally I'd quarantine the cardinal, but he's probably going to be nigh on impossible to catch and I'll probably just end up with a tank full of stressed fish from me swinging the net around and no better off.
I know cories can be sensitive to medication and I can't use meds with copper in them because of my inverts (the King British stuff, it doesn't say it contains copper, but it doesn't say it doesn't contain copper either and there's no ingredients list).
To those of you who have read this far, I salute you. Hopefully some can advise a course of action for me. Thanks all.
