I just bought 3 tiger barbs and mixed them with my tetras/gouramis. Supposedly, barbs r "semi agressive fish" THIS IS SO UNTRUE! the barbs seemt o be getting along great with the tetras. its the gouramis fighting with each other that im worried about!

Give it a week and your gouramis feelers will be history, people dont just say that tiger barbs are nippy for fun, they really should not be kept with fish with long finage or barbels/feelers unless you enjoy seeing fish that look like theyve been attacked with sissors.

what was a shoal of tigers doing in with a piranah?

or do you mean African tiger fish

Well, I had the Tigers, and they were killing everyone they were in with. So, in a moment of perverse please, I put them in with the piranah to teach them a lesson....oops.... :*)

Looks like they taught you a lesson   :lol:Poor piranah, should have put them in with an Oscar or a Jaguar

Hey Opalocka do you still think theyre unaggressive?

they say fish are like humans with there behavier most humans are nice but not all with barbs most are horrid fin nippers but some are nice in other words all fish are different and nobody is wrong about a fish they just telling own experience.

When I first started fish keeping, the fish shop that I bought my fish from said "yeah, you can keep tiger barbs in with those angel fish." Next day I'm taking the damn barbs back and asking the manager why the barbs are trying to eat my angels. He says "oh, the other guy told you to put those together???" It took quite a while for my angels to recover fully. Just my two cents.

that is one of the fascinating aspects of fishkeeping. everyone's experiences will vary. and like it was pointed out fish are like humans. there are nice and mean ones. had firemouths before and never had a problem with them. got another pair later and the damn thing killed everything in the tank, including a managuense that was larger than him. go figure!

a firemouth killed a managuenese or a "pair" of firemouths killed it. I have a pair and both the male and female seperately can't stand up to anybody, but it's funny how as soon as either the male or female(whoever is involed in the confrintation)starts to flare their throat and start the little darting back and forth motion it's mate swims straight over for a little tag team effort and when they come together as a team i could maybe see it happening, but my pair of kribs are over my firemouths. It really is entertaining to here the variety of experiences ppl have had w/ different fish.

(i know it's off the topic about my firemouths but somebody mentioned it and i had to add my 2cents...lol)

no just one firemouth. had a pair and he killed the female. funny thing was that i thought the managuense was responsible for the deaths. i seperated him and two more got it. left only the firemouth. thought the managuense would be okay but he got it a few days later. really nasty firemouth. took him back to the lfs and told them about it. went back a few weeks later and the owner told me that he did not believe me either. but it got a few of the other firemouths in the same tank. ended up taking him home to where he is now alone.
