Ever heard of this?

Can a female convict lay eggs, and tend them with the help of one of her daughters, without the presence of a male to then fertilize them?

She should be able to lay them and tend to them, but they won't hatch because there was no male around to fertilize them (unless Cichlids do some weird things that I don't know about ).

yeh, unless females can fertilize the eggs, which they cant, the eggs wont hatch
