I have a tank with no lid on, it's about 100 litres and I tend to lose about 2 inches of water (I don't know specifics!) per night.

So when it comes to my 20% water change, is this a reasonable substitution for a portion of my water change? Or do I still take 20% of what is left after evaporation, and then refill back to the normal level?

Just purely out of curiosity! If it saves me time i'll be a happy camper!

2 inches per night?! OMG get a lid lol

2" of water a night from evaporation, in the UK  Have you checked the carpet?

My room gets very hot..
A few of my tanks don't have heaters and keep at a consistent 26 degrees.

It keeps me nice and thin mind, no exercise for me in this heat!

26 degrees, that's a sauna, it would kill me that's for sure.

Im wondering the same, although i have lost about an inch and a half over around 3 months, though i do have a lid but i am uncertain of where its gone

Water changes are intended to remove toxins and other undesirables from the tank. When water evaporates, it's just the water that goes, no nitrates etc - those will all be left behind, more concentrated, in the tank water. As a result the evaporation will not be contributing to your water change requirements.
