Hi all, we purchased some silver mollies on Saturday (4) and got a suprise yesterday when i saw a Fry get fired accross the tank!!

is there anything we should do, they seem to be hiding well amongst the gravel but the zebras keep chasing them. I was planning on letting nature take its course and try some survival of the fittest and all.

edit - i have attached the best pic i can get of the little fellas

do you want to keep them??? if so you can buy a breeding net that attaches to the side of the tank, catch them and put them in there, i found it very satisfiying when i first started to rear the babies....

chances are they will not survive in the tank..what other fish are in there....sounds like the zebras are looking for a snack....

edit---just seen ure sig says just 5 zebra fish

unfortunately they will definitely get eaten if they are left free in the main tank.

I found a single fry a few days ago, I watched it for a few seconds but it seems one of the zebra danios was also watching it because it came for a snack :/

Livebearers have a *lot* of fry over time. If your tank is moderately to heavily planted or decorated, chances are some will survive. Zebra Danios are pretty good about hunting down fry, as others have attested.

Hey,

im in the exsact situation as you... I have counted six in my tank and they are around 3 or 4 weeks old... they are swimming around loads now and the other fish don't seem to be interested. Sometimes they swim right up to the other big fish and they never get chased.. I hope at least one survives....

Also my tank is quite well decorated... not to much but i think enough..

Personally im letting mature take its course!

The same happened to me RachandMike... I had my 6 platies 3 days then it seemed to increase by five.
I put my fry in a breeding net to give them a small chance in life as this was my first lot of fry I got quite excited and wanted to rear them....hehe
A few weeks on and I put them back into the main tank.... they are ok if you have plenty of hiding places, in fact, Ia couple of them are really brave and swim out into open waters!!!!!! they are the fattest ones!!!!!!

Good luck.

They are sooooo cute.... :fish:

this morning i counted 5 and they seem to be ok, we are using quite big gravel and they can get in between and hide. the danios dont seem to interested in them atm so maybe they will survive.

On a side note we have one of our Silver Mollies who has a yellow tint to the back fin - is this a male as (he) seems to be harrassing all of the others
