Hello! I recently moved some juvenile epiprenmums outside, and they have grown slightly larger leaves with more variegation.
I am wondering what is the best method to make them start to use aerial roots to climb.

I will post pictures tomorrow. currently they are on bamboo poles

1. will they climb on drywall with paint? and does the air humidity have to be high in order to do so?
2. will they climb on a poor mans moss pole made with cloth and wet dirt? I plan to use a method similar to air layering but on a long pole instead. I may also stab holes in the fabric.
3. maybe they are still too young? and how big do the leaves have to be before they start to climb?

Ivy and other climbing creepers can climb just about anything and easily climb on wood or stone/ brick. You don't need anything special, just plain old boring wooden posts or planks. Just use something soft to tie them to the wood and let them go. They will climb as soon as there is something to attach themselves to. Once they are attached, you can remove whatever is holding the to the wood. In an emergency you can superglue them to things as well.

will it work with painted materials though?
if not, I have some spare 2x4s that I can use.

I have seen them grow up painted wood and brick. Not sure about metal.
ok, I will just let it go up our fence then. we don't have any metal walls here either way
