Hi their fellow fish lovers
Ive been reading your forum for a while so thought i would join :D

Im currently in the process of going 'marine after keeping tropical freshwater fish as i like a new challenge.
I have a juwel rekord 120 tank which hold 26.5 gallons basically after some careful thought i have decided i want to use live rock as my main source of filtration.
I currently have 10kg on order in the next few weeks but have read it is best to add the rock slowly. how much is safe to add at any one time and how long should i wait before adding the next amount.
Also is live rock good for cycling the tank. and what other ways have you guys found is a good way start the biological cycle..

Any replys will be greatly appreciated thankyou.

I put all my live rock in at once, and my tank cycled in less than 2 weeks. If you have to order it you don't expect it to be cured all the time so you would have to recure any new order outside the tank everytime you plan on putting more in, otherwise the dieoff and accompanying spikes probably won't be to healthy for whatever you've already put in the tank.

I added most of my LR in right from the start and never saw a cycle at all. LR *can* cause your tank to be cycled instantly. Of course, if your LR is arriving by mail then chances are there's been some die off and you will need to let that finish and you'll see an ammonia spike and then the tank will finish the cycle.

Hello and welcome to the Marine Forum. I see you are from the UK, can i ask where you are ordering your Liverock from? Places like STM or Coral Garden suply top quality liverock and if you have got this from them then your tank wont need a cycle.

Good to have you with us.

Hi there thankyou for all your replys :)

Navarre i ordered my live rock from a shop i use as they didnt have any in stock at the time?
When speaking to the guy in the shop he said goes and picks it then i will pick it up so it shouldn't be out the water to long.

Just out of interest do you have the websites for stm and coral garden

Cheers ;)
