hi, um my roommates and i had a betta for like 3 days and it died suddenly. we aren't really sure what happened. So, we got two new guys because they were so cute (and didn't want another bad betta experience), a black molly and a rosy barb. we put them in the same bowl that the betta was in. it just has rocks at the bottom and is a glass bowl. a friend came over and was like hey guys those things need an oxygen supply! we totally didn't even think about it; we know bettas can survive in just a glass bowl but now we are wondering what to do. will they be ok? if we put some kind of plant in the bowl will that work, or do they need some sort of air pump? please help! they are going kind of crazy right now!

Well, they need at least a 10 gal tank. Molly's can get kinda big, and I think rosy barbs get aggressive. They need a filter to keep their water in check. Caves, plants, and anything else you can put in there to make their home more enjoyable would be nice. If I were you, I would try to take them back to where you got them, or get the bigger tank.

hi, thanks for your reply. i am still wondering about the oxygen thing though. we can definitely get a bigger bowl but would it still need an air pump? like will they die if they aren't in an aquarium? thanks for your help!!

Yes they will probably die, the bowl will get disgusting and you will be cleaning it about every other day if you don't have a filter. I know how it is being a poor college student (and people might hate me for saying this) but you can get a 10 gal kit at wally world for like $40 (I think) and that would be much much much better for your fish.
