Nothing wrong with my tank/filters but im just wondering if the flow is considerd good or bad. Its a 380L tank with 2 Aquaone CF1000 filters on.

they both do 1000lph so thats 2000lph in a 380L tank? Like i said nothing is wrong, just nice to know

Thats a good flow. you will get about 5 times turnover which is completely fine. Dosent beet my turnover though! :p
Eheim 2080 1700l/h
Eheim 2078 1850l/h
Tank is 450 litres

Giving me 7.8 times turnover.

Dont forget though, the turnover will be lover though once you account for media and pipework etc. :good:

Your tank must be like a washing machine, or whirlpool :hyper:

haha well i have used a 405 on a 60 litre tank (1300 l/h) for a whopping 21 times turnover. i do turn it down a bit though . Haha

So Aaron, where the heck would I have gotten the idea from that some enthusiasts like only 3x or 4x in planted tanks? Lately I've seen a number of references to planted tank people doing up to 10x. I know I read the 3x-4x recommendation (for planted tank hobby this is) somewhere here in planted or hardware forums (and I thought part of it was about some plants decidedly not liking high currents.)

Is it just old thinking?

There are a few plants that dont like the flow like vallis and cabomba which are weaker and can grow bent or get destroyed. Most are ok, even the ones i mentioned are if kept away from the filter outlet.

I know George Farmer likes to go more into the 20x turnover like what Adam had (I'm sure he used a fluval 405 on the 60l opti-white he did for PFK)

Well gee, maybe lots of turnover, if you can control it ok, is one of those secret ingredients of great tanks... kind of like good water changes...
