Both of my endlers died within a day of each other! I looked in the tank two days ago and one was dead on the gravel. I checked the water parameters and they are absolutely fine, no ammonia, no nitrite, no nitrate. I checked the other endler and he was looking kind of shy. I thought that it might be because of the other male guppies in the tank so I moved him to the community tank even though there are female guppies there. Then I checked back yesterday and he was dead too! I have no idea why they died! The water is great in both tanks. I do twice weekly water changes on them both. It ticks me off, I was finally able to find endlers and they died on me!

This will really burn your buns then...I was in the lfs yesterday and they are selling Endlers as "feeder guppies" for a whopping $1.75 for 10...I bought 30 and scattered them around in our tanks (one went into a breeder net as she is heavly preggers) :p

Hey PP. Are you sure you got Endlers and not Wild Mexican Guppies?????

Just curious, since I bought feeders once ($.10 ea) just because the males looked like Endlers, but were Wild Mexicans, and the females had colored tails. Some of the Mexicans are very pretty, so I never did figure out why they were sold as feeders????

They don't sell any feeder guppys in any of my lfs's i go to about five different ones! maybe its an maerican thing.... :D i feeel sorry for ur two endlers..... i had trouble with keeping abd breeding guppy but i have a good little population now after the one female left gave birth!!! :D yipee

i like the sounds of these mexican wild guppys or endlers either way!!!

I am very new at this. So I have 2 silly Q.
1. What are feeder guppies?
2. What are Endlers?

They may be wild guppies, I'm not sure. They look like someone splattered them with paint.

Feeder Guppies = cheap guppies you feed to other fish

Endlers Livebearers = A small colorful relative of Guppies

I have seen feeder guppies which basically look like guppies with smaller tails. Endlers have little splotchs of color, almost like slashs of color on them. They are also a lot smaller than guppies. I wanted to learn more about them through observation but they died, I still haven't figured it out. They should like the same water conditions as regular guppies right?

mamaschild, they are prolific breeders (my lfs sells all kinds of livebearer fry as feeders, except "Fancy Tail Guppies") but since they don't have the fancy tails of the typical aquarium guppies (the fancy tail ones), they are considered "less desirable" so sold as feeder fish. i have to say i've seen the "paint spotted" ones that look like endlers (though prob wild, the guy from caracus on here found one is the gutter there) are really interesting looking and actually quite unique (considered getting some but not sure how healthy they'll be since their are packed into a tank with hundreds of other fish with little room to move and grow....)

guppy monkey, sorry about youre loss, i know you worked so hard just to find them and then they go and die on you. if youre able to try again, keep us posted on what you learn about them

Many A Molly, yeah, that makes sense.....from a $$ standpoint. But I still think it's wrong  I loved my little Pedro, just as much as the FANCY ones. I tend to go for the oddball, though, so maybe it's me??? B)

I couldn't get the pic to work, but I suspect they are the wild guppies...unfortunately only one has survived, a lone female that I put into a breeder net because she is ready to pop anytime. Maybe I'll have better luck with the 2nd generation. I like the looks of them better than the fancys (maybe cause I'm just used to the fancy guppies and these are different?) so I think I'll try to raise the new batch.

Thats how fancy guppies came to be in the first place, selective breeding. I think you probably have feeder guppies and not wild mexican guppies ( if they were mexican guppies they would probably be a little more expensive than feeders). If you want them to keep the same sort of wild coloration instead of selectively breeding for traits then I suggest you move some fish around after a few matings so that the matings can remain random.

Wellll...I split them up between 3 tanks, quite a few dissappeared the first day (I suspect they were eaten by some of the other inhabitants) and I believe I lost about 12 to the filter intake...the little guys are so small and I never thought to cover the intakes :*) ...on the plus side I have found 3 others hiding in the plants, so may still have more survivors than I thought
