I recently introduced a female emperor tetra to the tank with my male. I think they might be ready soon; the male is incredibly radiant and confident, the female is still shy as she is almost recently added, but she was already so plump when I bought her.
Anyway, this post is about behavior. Ever since the female was added, my male has been zipping around the tank like he's on a massive sugar rush, mostly chasing around all the fish who are smaller than him. It's only playful I think, but when he knocked my otto off of its cucumber piece (by accident?) I started wondering. I've never seen anything aggressive from my male before. Normally he just slowly glides around the tank, maybe darting once in a while; this is weird.
Is the male territorial near mating?
