Right now i have an AC 300 and an Emperor 400 on my 55 gallon tank. I added the emperor after the ac because the ac wasent keeping it clear. Now i am getting a new 20 gallon tank and i was wondering if i could take the ac 300 off of the 55 and use it in the 20. Would the emperor keep the 55 clear by itself?

I have a 55 gal with an Emperor 400 and I've had no problem with the water staying clear. The one problem I did encounter is I seemed to be having issues with low oxygen in the tank. I ended up adding a small air pump and airstone for additional surface agitation. I've had it in for a week but things seem to be better.... my corys are no longer periodically heading to the surface for a breath.

The cichlid and plecos will contribute additional waste, since they are messy. The emperor might not be able to support the tank. Just monitor your levels. If you see a rise in ammonia/nitrITEs, I would put the other filter back on. Or you can just consider getting a canister filter for the tank, if you don't mind spending the extra cash for it.

If it the Emperor is able to support it, you might add a powerhead, with a venturi system, to oxygenate the water more.

hey there,
i have an emporer 400 on my 55 gallon, but i had to add another filter because the emporer couldn't keep up with the waste my fish produce.

crazie.eddie, I wouldnt mind spending the money if i had it lol. Im 16 and currently do not have a job. All my money goes into setting up my new 30 gallon reef tank. Hopefully soon a job will open up at my lfs.. They usually hire in the summer
