EMO's Eventual Aquaponic Thirty

QUESTION

I've got a 40 gallon tank that was used for my bearded dragon while he was at my parents house. Can I use the sand that is in his enclosure for a fish tank if I set it up for a fish tank? I remember buying it off Amazon and it was reptile sand. It feels smooth to me.

SO UPDATE TIME!!

Traded in the mollies and platies for some emerald green barbs. I will try to get photos at some point. The little ones are a little too quick for my camera. I have like eleven of them.

The question is, do I go with more barbs or do I get the harlequin rasboras or tetras?

UPDATE:
Only currently have one radish plant growing. The rest have died. I'm trying some gherkins to see how they do.
The only issue I'm running into is the floral beads have started to shrink a bit. Need to figure out a way to keep them hydrated.
The fish are doing well. I have about eleven emerald green barbs and about eleven black skirt I believe tertras. Debating still about getting the harlequin rasboras.
