I'm not a starfish expert havn't not kept anything other than species that have hitchiked in, but they can heal from small injuries given good conditions. They will disintigrate pretty fast though if they die. Hopefully someone that knows more than me will pop in with some better info.

ok cheers
also i have heard that starfish can make a new leg if they lose one so hopefully that means it will recover quite easily .the starfish is moving around like usal i just need to buy some bigger strainers so this wont happen again
but any way if anyone knows more about starfish and could give some advice it would be appreciated

That's great that it's still moving around :) sounds like it's doing ok; sorry I couldn't be more help. Is it a powerhead strainer that it got caught on? If so, you could put a sponge over it to keep critters out. That's what I've done in my tanks, although I have to take the sponges off every so often to clean the gunk out of them and keep the water flow high.

well the cut seems to be going down and skin is reattaching he is still fine i have ordered some new strainers what are bigger so this will not happen again
yes it was the strainer he was stuck to

also dont lift starfish out of the water because air can get trapped in them apparently and it kills them

My sand sifter arrived minus the tip of one leg and about half of another. Its been in the tank about 3-4 weeks now and seems ok. In comparison, the injuries yours has is a scratch to the limbs mine lost. My blue linkia also has a habit of positioning itself near powerheads but its favourite is the spray bar from the external filter. It raises a limb or two up and sits there filtering the water I suspect.

I would have thought it'll be ok, but keep an eye on it though.

leecara...what are you feeding your fromia indica? I'm just curious since most stars starve to death? Do you spot or hand feed? SH

i've seen a starfish in our lfs with one 'stumpy' leg and an extra one, it appears he was injured in some way and grew another leg to compensate so it seems they can self heal to an extent at least

well the starfish is fine also i dont really spot feed i have so much algae he just makes his way around the tank but when i feed i put a little extra in certain areas just in case my tank is 90 us gall and i have 3 starfish they are all doing extremly well and look very healthy so they got more than nessary to munch on

if you lot want i can put up some pics of my 3 starfish but its up 2 u lol..
