just been doing tests on my water before a water change and the hydrometer thingy is showing as 1028.i know it should be between 1021 and 1025 according to the instrument...but its showing as 1028. so does this mean too salty or not salty enough???
its only the third water change ive ever done on the marine tank, all the others have been spot on...dont know what ive done wrong here. temp is 26.

OMG spish.. they dragged u into marine

thanks for the lovely msg a while back, try as i might i couldnt reply.. hope youre well

just add a little less salt with your next few water changes.. it'll soon come down, but dont drop it fast!

ps, is your hydrometer properly colaberated ( however u spell that lol)

hey shelagh...Yeah i got thrown into the marine world, i got given a ready going tank :) glad to hear you're ok :) feeling miffed as it is today, one of my new(ish) oscars died today out of the blue...now just had a cleaner shrimp pop his clogs....
would too high a salt level kill a cleaner shrimp? thats how i noticed something was wrong...he went belly up? within minutes..! i should have tested the water before i put it in, but i used the same amounts of salt and water as all the other times i presumed it would be ok... only other thing i can think of is something wrong with my water (to have two things die on me in seperate tanks in one day is a bit more than coincidence methinks!) grrrrr

it was collaborated by the shop itself...apparantly.....to be honest ive never checked its 'right' just believing the previous owner. only had the tank about 4 weeks. managed to keep it going this long then added the shrimp, a snail and a hermit a while back.....

aww no :( what a shyte day !

no idea on the shrimp i never kept them, someone will advise u tho
lol your house must be like a rescue centre )
have u still got the older boys.. i think i recall an issue with them, but havent been active here for so long i cant remember

first rule: dont panic ;) !

Ok firstly you need to lower the SG. To be less stress/harmful on the tank occupants this needs to be done over a couple of days. Are you using a Hydrometer or Refractometer? Hydro are highly inaccurate. Refracto's to be 100% the RO which is used to prime needs to be the same temp as the tank water you are going to test. No point testing tank water that is 25 when the unit was primed with 10C water. Low the SG of the tank by removing small amounts of water and replacing with RO. How larger is the tank? An example would be replacing 2l of tank water every couple of hours. I wouldn’t lower the SG by more than 0.002 a day so to get from 1.028 to 1.025 would take 2-3 days.
