my puffer is not deflating! i have clipped his beak before but not fully, today i have done the rest and he puffed up, he didnt like the clove oil so i just quickly clipped it out the water! and now hes on the surface swimming up and down still inflated! help!

I read online that if a puffer inflates out of water, it won't be able to deflate.

Also, be careful with your hands in the water, don't they release a toxin?

if they puff out off water its unlikely to survive :(, they can "explode" as air takes up more volume than water, so they suck in more air than they can handel :(

i hope he lives, hes awsome

hes floating on the surface we are facing his head toward the surface and massaging his belly to make him burp which i have read :(

Puffers’ ability to inflate their stomachs is not limited to water, when raised into the air; you run the risk of the puffer inflating himself with a stomach full of air. Which is not a good thing, many puffers have difficulties expelling trapped air. Those puffers that can't release the air can actually become stressed enough that they perish. If your puffer does become inflated with air, there is a method of helping it release it. Which needs steady but gentle hands. You will have to hold the puffer with your hands, with it's head facing up, then begin to gently massage the belly of the fish upwards to it's chin. This will help the valves release and the air to escape from the upward facing puffer's mouth

i did try that although he got all the air out of him today he died :( R.I.P the valentini / juwel / blue spot pufferfish, i loved him dearly :(

To replace him in a few weeks i was thinking a fairy wrasse or a sand sifting goby

sorry to hear that mate this has happened to me plenty of times with puffers when i first started off the lfs took them out of the tank with the net and put him in the bag so he got the air inside of him then got traped this happend 3-4 times then i found out why this was happing to me

RIP valintini puffer

regards scott

thanks scott, i believe it was either trim his beak or starve so i did it, he was thin with bones showing as it was and wasnt eating cockels or clams :( apparently the previous owner couldnt look after him either :( its upsetting when they die this is my to die fortunately. i got attached to him whilsthe swam against the glass as to knock of or grind his beak :(

Are sandsifters hard i dont want to train or have something that wont take pellet. other wise what else invert or fish turns the bed?
