Anyone every heard of one of these? Even the guys at the lfs hadn't heard of it and couldn't track it down via Baensch - all their supplier said was that it's a 'very nice fish'! It is a very strange shape for a puffer - compressed, torpedo shape, swims more with its dorsal fin than it's pectoral, and is a shiny, emerald green. Looks like a puffer crossed with a goldfish!!

Sorry about the rubbish pic!

Does anyone have any ideas what it is?

looks more like a puffer crossed with a Piranha  , I'd seen them many years ago in a shop , they swam in the tank like schooling fish [ chump , chump , chump ], and not like any puffer I'd ever kept , I passed on them , so I guess I can't help you , sorry .

It's an Auriglobus puffer, either auriglobus modestus or auriglobus silus.
I'm leaning more towards a. silus due to the long body but it's impossible to tell from one photo.

Three to four inches depending on which species with a modestus being the larger.

On the upside: pretty fish, Fully freshwater, lively and active.
On the down side: Notorious fin-biters and a. modestus are even more prone to tooth overgrowth than South American Puffers meaning that in captivity they WILL require regular dental clipping.

Looks *very* much like my puffer sold to my as a dwarf bronze/gold puffer.

Mines fab with a great personality and isn't really bothered with any of my other fish. MInd you all fish have diff. personalities.

Here you go:

He's starting to get bolder, I need to decide if I'm gonna keep him and if so plant up the tank for him. I was hoping he was going to turn out brackish so he could go in with the bumblebee gobies when I moved them to the 12 gallon. Oh well!

Sarah, he was described as a 'Green Puffer' and was £9.75. The guys in the lfs had no idea about him - I've promised to take them in a printout of whatever I found out about him! I guess they don't specify what they want - their supplier must just send them whatever he thinks they'd like. Weird!!

Betta b Happy - yep, they are apparently also known as bronze puffers!!

Oh, and he sure likes smushed up snails..... I wasn't too sure about crushing them cos I have pet snails, but I just went for it! <hard, hard woman>

That's spooky, cos for the first time this year I happen to have a watermelon in the fridge! I 'll try it!

Do you have problems with your bronze puffer's teeth - do you have to trim them at all? I'm really dreading having to do it at any point!

Mine seems to have fine dentistry. So far so good. I have no issues about trimming teeth, even wrote an article on it.
