After a couple of years of keeping freshwater fish I feel confidnet enoughto embark on setting up a marine tank.
I have chatted to my LFS and the recommendation is to set up a tank using the berlin method of filtration.

To this end I will probably get: a

400l tank
3 MP 1200 powerheads
Arcadia Luminaire T5Mx4 48 lighting system.
Red Sea Prizm Deluxe Skimmer
Fluval 2 intrval filter
300 watt heater

A few good books.

Have I missed anything (equipment wise that is)?

Thanks

Frank

Some thoughts:
-digital thermometer and backup LCD thermometer
-source of water? RO/DI filter??
-salt..mixing equipment?
-refractometer
-marine test kit
-live rock
-substrate

you need to decide what fish you want too...what if they won't fit in your tank :*)

That happened to me, i decided i wanted volitans so i got a 120g tank which should be big enough...but i didn't read the "fine" print. My tank is only 18" wide and the lions can get up to 18" wide from tip to tip so i had to scrap that idea afterwards....

Hi Frank

IMO you are gonna need more flow in your tank that 3 x 1200lph powerheads (= 3600lph), I personally would aim for around 6000 - 8000lph (which equates to 15 - 20x tank volume) Have a look at these pumps - Seio Pump

The fluval Prizm Skimmer IMO aint worth the cardboard box it comes in, have a look at the Deltec of Aquamedic Range (MCE600 or the
Turboflotor)

What are you going to use the Fluval 2 for ??

I would double up on the heaters BTW, 2 are always better than 1 just in case of failure (get the best you can afford)

You will also need Test Kits - do a search for Salifert, they are IMO the most accurate

:D :D :D

What is the ebst way to measure out the salt?

Frank
Thanks

i use a 1 cup measuring scoop to measure outmy salt, always add less than you need and add more to get your desired SG
