hello everyone, just want to give you guys a heads up,the elite stingray filter is awful. It's doesn't have amazing filteration quality and it's already claimed the lives of 6 harlequins in my tank. This is because there is a big gap in between the filter and the side of the tank and little fish love to go in between it ,however much i block it they can always find a way in between.I'm sure this is a fault with loads of filters but for this filter its not even worth the effort.sorry ranting a bit because the 6th fish jusst died

my fish always get behind my intercept one and get back out fine :S

My sisters elite stingray was perfectly fine, shame it claimed the lives of your fishies :(

they are poor filters, the worst commercial filters on the market IMO. The reason being is the lack of surface area for good bacteria.

this depends on the individual tank on a smaller tank it would be fine as less bacteria would be needed

you'd still need more surface area, the smaller the tank the smaller the stingray which equals smaller amounts of sponge and media (which is carbon and Zeolite anyway), my other statement wasn't a generalisation, i know from experience with the stingray. I swapped for a fluval with more surface area and water stats wise, my water was a lot better. The only good thing about them is that they don't stick out like a sore thumb.

would also depend on the waste the fish produce
tbh it does the job maybe not as good as others but it does the job

Just as i read that i looked around at mine and one of my pearl gouramis was trying to get behind it. I have never lost any fish this way though....

i have a Elite stingray 15 and i have had no problems, its a briliant filter exept that 2-3cms gap, if they keep getting behind it just move enough stones to place the filter at the bottom, stick the stickers to the glass at the bottom then cover the sides with stones, simple solution but i have had no problems.
